A big day for ATS – and for the Australian tunnelling history. Yesterday kicked off with the ATS Executive Committee meeting — a productive in-person session full of great discussion and big ideas for the next six months and beyond.
This was followed by a truly special evening: the Sydney Harbour Tunnel Celebration, held in a packed room with over 120 attendees, a livestream audience, and even a dedicated gathering in Brisbane.
For the first time in more than 30 years, key people from the original project came together to reflect on this masterclass in visionary engineering, contracting foresight, and operational excellence.
Last year, the Sydney Harbour Tunnel was rightly recognised with the ITA Iconic Project Award, named one of the 50 most iconic tunnel projects globally over the past 50 years. During the event, Arnold Dix, Immediate Past President of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA), to presented this ward to Camilla Drover B Eng MAICD Deputy Secretary, Infrastructure and Place at Transport for NSW.
Huge thanks to everyone who made the celebration possible — including, (but not limited to) Bruce Judd, Rob Parks, Ted Nye, Patrick Wong, Lewis Gomes, Doug Tomic, Peter Wheen, Andrew Marsonet, Bob Nowotny, Tony Shepherd — and project photographer Margaret Rush. Deep appreciation also to Phil Clark, Chair of ATS NSW committee and all the other event enablers.
