Abstracts now open for Australasian Tunnelling Conference 2027

The call for abstracts is now open for the Australasian Tunnelling Conference 2027 (ATC2027), taking place in Brisbane from 8–11 November 2027.

Held under the theme Shaping an Underground Future: Technology, Sustainability & Resilience, ATC2027 will bring together tunnelling and underground infrastructure professionals from across Australia, New Zealand and beyond to share knowledge, innovation and practical experience across the full lifecycle of underground projects.

The conference program will explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the industry, from planning, sustainability and ground investigation through to digitalisation, construction, operations, asset management and the rehabilitation and repurposing of existing infrastructure.

Eleven technical themes have been identified for ATC2027, including:

Planning, sustainability and development of underground space
Underground infrastructure, society and education
Ground investigation, characterisation and geotechnical data
Instrumentation, monitoring and data-driven performance
Design, digitalisation and construction of underground structures
Ground support, linings and durable infrastructure systems
Tunnelling methods and construction technologies
Project delivery, safety and sustainable workforce development
Operations, maintenance and lifecycle asset management
Rehabilitation, repurposing and lifecycle renewal
Underground infrastructure for resources, mining and asset repurposing

The conference provides an opportunity for engineers, researchers, contractors, asset owners, government representatives and other industry professionals to share lessons learned, emerging technologies, research and project experience with the wider tunnelling community.

Submit your abstract

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for consideration by the ATC2027 Technical Committee. The deadline for submissions is midnight AEDT, Friday 2 October 2026. Authors whose abstracts are accepted will subsequently be invited to submit a full paper for peer review.

A maximum of three abstracts may be submitted by each person as the main presenting author, with no limit on the number of submissions on which an author is a co-author.
