Abstract
AFTES working group 28 has published 2 recommendations regarding shafts design and construction. These recommendations cover deep shafts and shallow shafts, in order to give the tools for a better understanding of shaft construction projects and the different considerations associated with these structures. The presentation will give a detailed overview of the content of these texts.

Clément Gaudry is a Project Manager at Arcadis. He has been involved in several shafts design and construction projects, including the French deep geological nuclear waste disposal project – 5 deep shafts (>500 m depth), Grand Paris Express Line 18 – 4 security shafts (25 to 50 m depth), and a utility gallery for the Olympic Village (St Denis) – 2 access shafts (20 to 55 m depth, including one elliptical shaft). He has been actively involved in AFTES and the working Group 28 for 10 years and has recently joined the ITA Working Group 23. As a young professional, he is part of AFTES Young Members as an event coordinator to promote underground works and sharing knowledge to the new generation of engineers.
