Engineering Judgment in Practice: Defining and Delivering “Good Enough”
December 2 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm AEDT
SAVE THE DATE
The ATS Mentor Alliance’s next Learning and Development Forum will be hosting a panel discussion with senior leaders from major projects in Sydney over the last decade to explore the topic of “good enough” – how to deliver a solution to achieve project objectives, without chasing perfection.
Event overview
Through real experiences across the various stages of a project’s lifecycle, the panellists will share practical lessons on balancing cost, time, and quality, managing client expectations, refining scope, and focusing effort where it adds the most value.
Attendees will gain insights into one the most important skills for engineers at any stage of their career – how to apply engineering judgment. We will explore how different stakeholders, from clients and designers to independent certifiers and contractors, approach decision-making and define project success. The discussion will highlight how contract models, project constraints, and risk management influence outcomes.
Most importantly, participants will hear firsthand examples of how effective communication can prevent issues, align expectations, and create opportunities for better project outcomes. The key takeaway is simple: communicate early and often. Success comes from understanding constraints, having the right conversations at the right time, and working collaboratively to deliver what the client needs, no more and no less.
Who should come?
The L&D Forum will be open to all ATS and NZTS members. This will be a hybrid event, in person in Sydney and online for everyone else.
