The ATS Young Members (ATSym) are excited to invite members to a site visit to the Sydney Metro West (SMW) – Eastern Tunnelling Package (ETP) Hunter Street site.

The site visit will include a brief presentation on the SMW ETP project and the Hunter Street site, followed by a tour of the Hunter Street site underground works.

The ATSym would like to thank the John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella Joint Venture, along with Sydney Metro, for providing this opportunity and for supporting the development of the next generation of tunnelling professionals.

Project Background

SMW is a major new underground railway connecting Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. The project is being delivered through three major tunnelling packages: the Western Tunnelling Package (WTP), Central Tunnelling Package (CTP) and Eastern Tunnelling Package (ETP).

The ETP, being delivered by the John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella Joint Venture, includes construction of 3.5 kilometre tunnels under Sydney Harbour between The Bays and Sydney CBD, and the excavation of Pyrmont and Hunter Street stations.

The Hunter Street site represents one of the most significant and technically challenging components of the ETP, with works including excavation of the future Hunter Street Station caverns, associated adits and turnback tunnels within the Sydney CBD.

This site visit will provide a fantastic opportunity for young tunnelling professionals and students to gain first-hand exposure to one of Sydney’s major underground infrastructure projects and to engage with experienced members of the tunnelling industry.

Following the close of registrations, attendees will be selected from the eligible registrations and successful applicants will be notified by email/calendar invitation.

Minimum Requirements for Site Visit

• Attendees must be 35 years of age or under.
• Long trousers, long sleeve shirt (Hi-Vis, or Hi-Vis vest over the top), and steel toe safety boots must be worn underground (non-negotiable).
• PAPRs must be worn underground (non-negotiable). PAPRs will be supplied on the day.
