Aligning temporary and permanent works design with construction
February 25 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm AEDT
Overview
This session brings together design and construction perspectives to examine the critical relationship between construction methods, temporary works and permanent works design. Drawing on recent project experience, experts from SYSTRA and BG&E will demonstrate how construction sequencing, staging and temporary works solutions can materially influence permanent works outcomes, often driving redesign, program change or cost escalation if not considered early.
The session reinforces the value of collaborative, constructability-led thinking across the project lifecycle. The speakers will explore practical lessons, peer knowledge sharing and application to day-to-day engineering decision-making. Through real examples, attendees will explore how early and integrated consideration of construction methods and temporary works can streamline delivery, manage risk and improve safety, cost and schedule performance.
The discussion will highlight opportunities for engineers to work more effectively across disciplines, delivering projects that are not only technically sound but also buildable, efficient and sustainable.
This event is produced by the ATS. This event is supported by the Construction Community of Practice.
Learning outcomes
In this event, you will:
- recognise how construction sequencing, staging and temporary works decisions directly influence permanent works design outcomes
- assess the impacts of external constraints, such as site access and plant selection, on design and construction solutions
- apply balanced planning approaches that integrate design intent with construction methodology to reduce risk and rework
- strengthen collaboration between designers and constructors to improve constructability, safety and project delivery performance.
