SUMMARY:Technical Seminar Ground Stabilisation by Ground Freezing: International Experience
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this hybrid event to explore the theory\, applications\, and case studies of ground freezing. \nNote: when you register\, please specify if you will be attending in person or online. \nAbout Ground Freezing \nArtificial ground freezing is a construction technique that is used in the construction of shafts\, mines and tunnels to provide temporary ground support and groundwater control when other conventional methods such as dewatering\, shoring and grouting or soil mixing are not feasible. \nGround freezing is a versatile construction technique used to temporarily solidify the ground. By inserting pipes and circulating a cold brine or refrigerant\, heat is extracted from the soil\, causing it to freeze and form a solid mass. This technique is invaluable in challenging conditions\, such as in soft ground or the presence of groundwater. \nPresentation \n\nGround freezing principles and applications\nGround characterisation and laboratory testing for ground freezing design\nIn situ monitoring during construction\nProject examples from various countries\n\nSpeaker \nMichael Löffler\, a leading expert in ground freezing\, heads the group at CDM Smith (Germany) specialising in this technique. His projects include the cross passages at the Silvertown and High Speed 2 tunnels in London\, the tunnels under the Suez Canal in Ismailia (Egypt)\, the new construction of the federal intelligence service building in Berlin\, the North-South metro line in Cologne and the Post Tower high-rise in Bonn. \nSponsors \n \n
