SUMMARY:Kidston Hydro Tailrace breakthrough: inside-out method
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nNote\, this event is both online and in person. \nThe in person registration link is: Kidston Hydro Tailrace breakthrough: inside-out method | Engineers Australia \nClick this link at 5.30 AEST to join online: ATS Technical Presentation: Kidston Hydro Tailrace breakthrough: inside-out method | Meeting-Join | Microsoft Teams \nJoin us for an insightful technical presentation showcasing a compelling case study on the excavation of Tailrace 1 at the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro project. This innovative approach involved excavating from the inside out\, without prior access to the external portal face. The presentation will detail the unique methodologies employed\, including the implementation of ground support systems and specialized techniques for achieving a bespoke breakthrough. Gain valuable insights into how the final breakthrough blast was carefully executed and supported to ensure structural stability upon completion. \nProgram timeline\n5.00 pm AEST – Registration and catering opens \n5.30 pm AEST – Presentation commences \n7.30 pm AEST – Presentation concludes \n8.00 pm AEST – Event concludes \nLearning outcomes\n\nInnovative excavation approach: methodology of excavating from the inside out without prior access to the external portal face\nGround support design and implementation: design principles and techniques to ensure stability during breakthrough works\nSpecialized techniques for bespoke breakthrough: unique strategies for controlled and safe breakthrough in challenging conditions\nFinal breakthrough blast execution: planning and execution to maintain structural integrity\nRisk management and safety considerations: measures to mitigate risks and ensure safety during excavation and blasting operations\nLessons learned from the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project: key takeaways for similar tunnelling and underground engineering projects\n\nAbout the speakers\n\n\n\nAmit Narsey\nTunnelling Engineer\, GHD\n\n\nAmit is a tunnelling engineer with over 14 years’ experience in the design and delivery of underground and geotechnical infrastructure in the hydropower\, water and transport sectors. His key areas of technical competency are in the structural and geotechnical design of ground support for tunnels\, caverns\, shafts and retaining structures. Amit undertakes and leads teams to deliver engineering services\, and as a chartered professional is passionate about providing practical solutions to clients across various project stages including design\, construction\, operation\, and maintenance.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKaylah Macintosh\nTunnel Manager\, JHG\n\nKaylah is a Tunnel Manager with over 10 years experience in Tunnelling.
